The students will be completing a PBL – Project Based Learning Project.  Their driving question will be:
How do other countries celebrate Christmas around the world?
The students will use various research to locate information.

The students will be going home tomorrow at 11:00 am and then if they chose to come back to be a part of the Senior Citizen Luncheon the parents will be responsible for getting their child there and back home.  Mrs. Steel will not be taking them to the luncheon or getting them home.  I am so sorry for any confusion.  Please see the note in your child’s folder and a copy of the note below.

Reading:  Author’s Purpose
We read and write for a purpose.  The author wants to persuade us, inform us, or entertainment us when we read their story.  We will read books and decide on the author’s purpose of writing the story and discuss the characteristics of how we know this information.

Writing:  Writing for a purpose!
We will write to persuade Santa to bring us what we want or need. We will also create a Christmas tree outside and write to persuade why our tree should be chosen.

Word Work:  pronouns
A pronoun will take the place of a noun.  Ex.  her, it, she, he, them

Spelling:  New Words:
good, new, write, our, me
Review Words:
as, they, when, their, two, like, people, use, words, a, that, was, are, one, all, we, their, about, many, these, time, people, made, little, very, just
Extra Words:
These words will be posted on the board as a resource.

Math:  We will continue our understanding of addition with regrouping in more than one place value.

Social Studies:  We will learn about the traditions and customs around the world.

Homework:
Math – 2 pages of addition with regrouping due Friday  (earn a ticket)
Spelling – Write a sentence a night using the new spelling words. (5 words) Due Friday for a ticket.
Read – Read each night for comprehension and fluency practice.  Get the fluency poem signed for an extra ticket.

I will be at a training from Tuesday afternoon through Friday.  We will have our Spelling Test on Monday the 24th.

My substitute will be Mrs. Babb.  I have talked with the students about their expectations of being an awesome champ!  I know they can be great helpers to our substitute while I am gone.

Reading:  We will be learning about Thanksgiving!  They will make a fact book about they information they learn during the week.  We will review main idea and locating facts.

Word Work:  Antonyms and Synonyms

Spelling:  New Words:
get, through, back, much, go
Review Words:
they, have, what, there, which, been, now, little, called, to, that, he, for, was, with, his, at, had, said, do, will, so, two, him, see, first
Extra Words:
These words will be posted on the board as a resource.
Dad, friends, got, help, home, wanted, work
The test will be on Monday.

Math:  We will continue learning about place value and regrouping with addition.

Writing:  They will continue their Turkey stories and create a Thankful acrostic poem.

Homework:  Addition Computation and Coin review – due Friday
Spelling – Write a sentence with each word – due Friday.
Read each night and initial.
Each thing completed and turned in will earn them an extra ticket!

EARLY RELEASE THIS TUESDAY AT 11:00 FOR THE PRIMARY STUDENTS!

Reading:  Continue applying their understanding of the main idea of a story or passage.

Phonics:  bossy r – or, er, ir, ur, ar
Apply understanding of bossy r part in reading and writing.

Spelling:  Review 13
New Words:  called, just, where, most, know
Review Words:  there, your, out, then than, little, after, the, of, to, is, for, are, they, one, all, we, can, will, time, no, now, way, find
Extra Words:  come, four, here, hiding, look, out, place, us

Writing:  Fiction Writing
The students will read Thanksgiving stories.  They will create a story element graphic organizer to create their own fiction story or adaptation of Turkey Trouble or The Plump, Perky Turkey.  We want the students to begin using “lively language” or “million dollar words” to paint a picture of the events happening in their stories.  They will use the writing process to complete a published story.

Math:  Continue understanding place value in order to understand addition with regrouping.
Problem solving with all concepts learned.

Social Studies:  They will learn about the first Thanksgiving.

Class chapter book:  Magic Tree House – Thanksgiving on Thursday
We read a chapter a day and discuss vocabulary and all comprehension strategies and concepts learned.  (inferencing, vocabulary, main idea, supporting details, connections to self, text, world, author’s purpose)

Homework:
Spelling Words – practice a word a night.  Write a sentence with the word and practice revising and editing.  (This will help them with the dictation part of the spelling review.)  They can receive a ticket when they complete this and turn it in on Friday.  Spelling Test will be on Friday.

Math:  Two math pages for review – due Friday.  They get a ticket when they return their homework.

Read each night and get your reading log signed.  The get a ticket for each night that they read.

I also try and put a question about what we are learning in their planner.  If the students answer it they can get an extra ticket.

The students will learn about the main idea and the details that lead up to the main idea.

Math:  Place Value to the thousands place

How to Catch a Turkey using the writing process.  We will use this piece of writing to write a fiction story next week.

Math Homework:  Two pages due on Friday
Reading:  Read each night and get your reading log initialed for a ticket.
Fluency:  Read the poem and work on fluency, phrasing, and expression.
