Revised!

Your child will be getting important papers tomorrow in their folder.  They will get their report card on Friday and these papers are normally in there, but we will be sending them home tomorrow instead.  We want to give you a chance to look over these papers and be prepared for summer activities and registration procedures and dates for next year.

Thanks for letting me teach your precious children!  I have enjoyed each and everyone of them.  Each of them has touched my heart and made me grow as a teacher.  I have loved seeing them bloom as great first graders!

Lunch menu change for this week:

Tuesday = chicken rings and mashed potatoes

Thursday = ham and cheese wrap

We will be bringing home a reading and writing practice book for extra practice this summer.

Early release will be at 11:00 on Thursday and Friday this week.

Please just bring yourself to school on Friday.  Don’t worry about a backpack.  Parents please look for your child’s report card and important notes on Friday when they get with you after school. I will have them put their last few items in a zip-loc bag.  The report card will have many important papers about summer information and registration for next year.

Summer Reading

Posted by Mrs. Barlow | Posted in Mrs. Barlow's Class | Posted on May 17, 2012

We have a wonderful Summer Reading Program that will be going on at our own White Oak Community Library!  Please see previous post for information.

A good start to knowing their level is to ask the librarian for A.R. leveled books 1.0 to 1.9.  These are first grade levels, but many of the students are reading above that.  You may want to ask for books from a range of 1.0 to 2.5.

Let them go on an adventure with a book this summer!

Math Practice

Posted by Mrs. Barlow | Posted in Mrs. Barlow's Class | Posted on May 17, 2012

We have been using a web-based program called XtraMath to increase speed and accuracy in arithmetic. Your child is invited to continue using XtraMath over the summer break to maintain and improve their skills for next year. If you don’t have Internet at home I can suggest alternative activities which are also effective.

Flashcards!  Working with at home manipulatives like dry beans or pennies to build adding a subtracting practice!  Drawing a picture and  creating a math story problem to go with it!

Go to www.xtramath.org and watch the short “Overview” and “Getting Started” videos.
Click Enroll. You will be asked for a student enrollment code.  I will send this home in report card!

After this quick process, your child will be able to do XtraMath from home. This will ensure that existing accounts are linked to my classroom.

Thank you!
