We learned about matter today. First, we had a balloon filled with water. It was a liquid. Then, we had a balloon that was frozen and observed the difference between a liquid and a solid. Finally, we had a bottle with vinegar and a balloon with baking soda in it. We saw the gas form by the combination blowing up the balloon. It was a great science project.

Picture Day on Wednesday, September 30, 2015. Each child will have their picture taken even if you don’t want to purchase any. This picture will go in the yearbook.

Reading: We will be learning how to infer meaning from a text. We will also be discussing character traits and use what we know about inferring to help us understand how and why a character acts or feels a certain way. Background knowledge + clues from the text = inferencing.

Today we visited the Nature Center. We discussed our senses and used them to observe our outdoor surroundings. The students are learning that you will become a better writer if you use your senses. This will help your reader feel like they are in the story as one of your characters! Enjoy a few pictures of our tour!

We also discussed that reading is thinking! When we read we need to ask questions and make predictions about what is happening in the book! We did a science experiment to help remember that our minds need to bubble with questions while reading!

Choose one word each night. Write it! Read it! Speed write it!
Make up a sentence using the word that you chose.
Have your child write the sentence.
They need to revise (read it back to check if it sounds right)!
They need to edit (check for capitals at the beginning of the sentence, punctuation, and check spelling of word wall words!
