Dear Parents,

I will be out of class for a few days with my sick child.  We will not perform in our Champs Assembly this Friday.  I will let you know when it is rescheduled.  I have given our substitute a new book for the kids to read each night.  They will read it with her and then they need to read it at home.  If they come to a word they don’t know please just tell them to get it started with a part they know and then say something that would make sense from the story they are reading.  They also know to check the pictures or reread and see if they can figure it out.  We will have our spelling test next week.  Thanks for your understanding.  I hope to see them at the end of the week, but it may be Monday.

Thanks,

Mrs. Barlow

We have a spelling test tomorrow.  We will also have a math test over time to the hour and half hour.  The students have a math homework sheet in their folder to complete!  The game is for extra practice if you would like to do it.  Please have them return the math time sheet in tomorrow.

We will not have school on Monday.

We have new spelling words posted on the blog.  Our test will be on Friday of each week.

MATH

We are learning how to tell time to the hour and half-hour.  Each skill that we learn involves problem solving.

WRITING

We are working on revising our stories by reading them back to ourselves and making sure it sounds right.  We have also learned about adjectives and I am challenging them to locate one noun and describe it!  We hope this will add a picture in our mind when reading and listening to their stories!  We are also beginning to research penguins and write non-fiction pieces about what we have learned.  We will then learn how to add the facts into our fiction stories!

WORD WORK

-ed endings

READING

I am testing this week.  The students are picking out their own book.  They are learning how to pick “just right books”!  Please continue to have them read and sign their log each night!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break!  We are off to a great start for the new year!

Math

We are completing our subtraction chapter.  We will begin learning about time to the hour and half hour next week.

Reading and Writing

We are going to be researching animals that live in cold climates.  We will learn about their habitats, how they get their food, their predators, and many other things.  This will then lead us into using what true facts we know and incorporate it into a fiction story.

The new spelling words are now on our blog.  We will have our test on Friday.

Please continue to have your child read each night!  Thanks for all of your support!
