Your child has several opportunities to take  water breaks during the day when they are at independent work times, but if your child would like to bring a water bottle to school for use during the day it is fine.  If they do please have them bring one that is room temperature.  The cold ones will leak on their desks and papers. Please send water only!  Thanks!

We learned about two U.S. symbols today.  We learned about The Statue of Liberty and the American Flag.  We will continue learning more this week and the next and then write about our favorite one.

Graph test will be this Friday with mixed review.  We will be assessed on addition, subtraction, reading a graph and answering questions using the graph.  The hardest questions seems to be…  How many fewer than______? and How many more than ________?  We are learning that we need to subtract when answering this question.

Benchmark testing is almost complete.  Continue reading their familiar books.  I am seeing growth with all our readers!  Rereading good books or books from home are great ways to continue our reading practice!  Thanks for your support!

We voted today!  Grace won for president!  She was a diligent worker and was honest and helpful! We came in this morning and voted in the voting booth.  We then tallied up the votes and created a picture graph!  Then we answered questions using our graph.

We will combine our votes with all of the other 1st grade classes to see who won!

We also wrote “If we were the President of the United States…”  We will be publishing them all week to our friends and on the computer to share with you!

Please click on each picture to hear the students president pages.  We will add new students pages daily!

We also saw an Opera today!  The students went to our own White Oak Auditorium to see an opera The Ugly Duckling!  We then read the book and discussed the likenesses and differences of the performance and the book.  The moral of the story was the same in both…  be kind to people even if they are different.  Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Lacy for sponsoring this awesome event!

Great Information and a way to HELP!

We will vote tomorrow on two characters from books we listened to on youtube.

Grace For President and Duck For President

We discussed what character traits each one had and the students will vote on a ballot tomorrow.  We will tally the votes and create a picture graph to see who won!

I am giving benchmark tests this week in guided reading.  Your child will be bringing home a familiar book to read.  Please have them read it for fluency and expression and sign their log as usual.  They may be bringing home a book they have read before.
