The students had a great time learning about subtraction and eating their “whales”!  We learned that a subtraction problem has to start with the greatest number and the answer is called the difference!

We also used what we had learned about seasons and changes to create a tree that would be part of our favorite season!  We mixed colors to make the colors that we needed to paint our tree.  This will be the plan for our non-fiction writing about our favorite season!

We are working on subtraction in math and will soon begin to see addition and subtraction problems mixed together.  We will need to watch our signs!  When reading our story problems we will need to think about if our question is asking us to add or subtract.

The students brought home a bag of their first 20 sight words.  Please review them daily!  If we can read them we can locate them and begin to write them fluently.  If you have misplaced them I can make some more!  I will put them on a ring for them to flash to themselves or with you at home.  We will be adding new ones every other week.  Please let me know if you need yours replaced by writing me a note in your child’s planner.

Your child will always bring home a different book each night!  If for some reason they do have the same book to read it may be because I am out of the classroom for the day and we had a substitute or that I would like for them to work on fluency!  Have your child talk with you about the story and see if they can make a connection to themselves or another book they have read!

We had an addition test today.  We took our spelling test today.  We wrote our stories in writing and we are working on revising.

We learned about the changes from fall to winter.

They are the same because they are both seasons.

We watched a program about electricity!  Ask me what I learned and look at my book with me from SWEPCO!

Today we read a book called Miss Moo-Moo the Cow.  We learned how to mix colors and make changes.

We used play-doh in primary colors to make new colors.

They are bringing home the play-doh to show you changes they made!

We will have a spelling test tomorrow.  The words are the ones on page 25.  The new words for this week are on page 27.  We will probably have our spelling tests on Tuesdays.

We had a math assessment today over addition and patterns.  I bet we did a great job.  We are learning to be great problem solvers.

We are writing a fall fiction story together about a bear and a bird.
