In math problem solving we learned how to use a number line.  The strategy we learned in Number Talks was counting on and doubles minus 1.

We read a book called I Love Myself.  We wrote about the physical trait and character trait that we like about ourselves.

We also read a book about family.  We began a story telling about all of our family members.

Please do not forget that if you are taking your child to the pep rally that you need to send a note.

We read a story about being honest.  It was called Ruthie and the (Not So) Teeny, Tiny Lie.   They enjoyed making text to self connections and discussed why it was so important to be honest.

Today the students and I reviewed the writing process.  They wrote me a letter about all the things they enjoy doing at school.

In math we discussed our mental math strategies of counting on and doubles plus 1.  They also solved an intentional problem solving story by using the strategies of drawing a picture and using a 100 chart.

They are bringing home a few letters in their folder for you to look over.  Please don’t forget that Monday is a school holiday.

Today we read a great book about teaching us why we should be brave and stand tall!  The book was called Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon.  We used sticky notes to make text to self connections.  We wrote about the things that made us unique and special!

We are also beginning to create our class Social Contract.  Please view the note about our Social Contract and Rules of the classroom that is in your child’s folder.

Today we began our journey in Math.  We discussed all the places we see math!  They began  Number Talk and learned how to have great math discussions.  We also completed a math word problem and discussed how to look for the things we know and what we are looking for in our problems.  Our math word today was sum!

Wow!  What a great first day of school! We read a book called First Day Jitters and talked about how we felt before school and then after school started!   We read Apple Trouble  and learned about teamwork.  The kids made a recipe for Tasty Teamwork.  We learned the Champ rules for common areas in our school.  They also played a game to learn about each other.  It was a very busy day, but a great first day!  Enjoy the slideshow below!  Thank you for sharing your child with me!
