In math I learned about multiplication by skip counting.

Question of the Day: If one person has 2 hands then how many hands would 12 people have?

Today in math we began understanding tables.  For example, if 1 floor of a building had 5 rooms, then how many rooms would 5 floors have?

I have put a spelling practice link on the right side of the blog under Spelling Practice.  This link is by grade level and has activities for all spelling words that we cover.  I will introduce this to the kids in class and allow them to use it at school.  We go over a word a day.  I encourage you to let your child play a game on this site to help them enforce their learning each night.

We are learning subtraction.  We first learned it with cubes and discussed how we had to “borrow” or “regroup” a ten rod from the tens place and then put it in the ones place.  Then we subtracted the ones place and then the tens place.

They put a problem in their planner to solve for you and explain their steps.

Dear Parents,

I have sent home a Student Publishing form to be completed by you.  It is not mandatory to buy the class book.  If you don’t want it I understand, but would you still check the box and send it back that says “I do not wish to purchase my child’s book”.  Please sign it and return it by the 12th.  I will need all sheets back whether you choose to order or not.

Thanks,

Mrs. Barlow

I learned to regroup. and to graph with  drinks  and  fruit.  We read and learned information about why graphs are important.

The students are beginning to learn about regrouping with subtraction.  We used cubes and place value charts to help understand the concept.

We are still reading fairy tales and discussing author’s purpose of various books.  We are also writing our own fairy tales.

During the month of February we are discussing healthy teeth habits.

I learned subtraction in math today and how to graph on a line graph, bar graph, and picture graphs. I love math.

We also created a venn diagram to compare and contrast two stories.  The stories were called Cinderella and The Rough Faced Girl.  The students are learning about the genre of fairy tales and all of the important characteristics of this type of genre.

I learned what  place value was.  If you put a 6 and two 0’s you will get 600.

We are learning to add endings to our words.  We worked on adding the endings -ing, -ed, and -s to place today.  We learned that when we add -ing to a word that ends with e or y we need to drop the e and add -ing.

Hello Parents,

I made a mistake on a name on the letter that went home today.  I will revise this and send it back home tomorrow.  I am sorry for any inconvenience.  I also wanted to let you know that the students will be creating their own Valentine sack in the classroom to use for the party.  The room moms have the information on who would like to help with parties.  They will be contacting you soon to send items and give you information about the party.  The room moms for this party are Mrs. Barnes, Mrs. Hidalgo, and Mrs. Anderson.  Please let me know if you need their contact information.  Thanks for your help and support.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Barlow
